Guys-
I think you may be trying too hard to find a chink in this cars armor. This was NOT a basket case before restoration, it was an completely unmolested car that was merely parked in 1976 in the owners back yard. The dash is unrestored, if the silver paint is wrong, well, call GM - 'cause that is the way it was! Unless , of course, the owner needed to touch it up when the car was <6 years old. Same with the steering wheel. I can fully appreciate members of this group looking out for each other. Overall, I think a lot of the posts are quite valid especially considering the glut of absolute s$# on the market these days! However, the "guilty until proven innocent" method of judging cars is getting old, at least to me. I am a car collector and enthusiast first and foremost , being a dealer is a side effect of the sickness. Trust me when I say that I look at a LOT of cars and weed out 98% within seconds of seeing them. This Chevelle is a car well known to me that I watched being restored. I welcome any of you to come and look at the car in person, or any of my cars for that matter. I'll even tap off a round of Milwaukee's Finest in the shop. All I ask is that before you jump to conclusions about what is right and what is presumed wrong on a car that you do a little home work first and research the subject. Oh yeah, please don't get my web guy fired up by posting copywrited and water marked pictures from my site! He gets all puffy and starts rattling on about "intelectual property" and "copywright infringment" blah, blah, blah. If you want a picture to use, let me know and I'll send you the picture sans water mark - with my blessings. Best regards to all - Colin Comer Classic Auto |

All I ask is that before you jump to conclusions about what is right and what is presumed wrong on a car that you do a little home work first and research the subject. [/ QUOTE ] These folks have done research, and thats why they can spot the things that are incorrect. Its a very nice looking car, with a very unique combo of options, but I'm gonna have to side with the others that have said there are numerous items not original to the car, the steering wheel shroud is definitly not original, as it has the correct 70 style buttons and a 69 grain texture on the center shroud. There are several other obvious things (some mentioned and other unmentioned) that have been changed. Thats not to knock or bash the car in any way, but whether or not the stuff was changed out in 76 or last week really doesn't make much difference, as they are still things that would need to be corrected. I have seen your Cobrari (Cobra with V12 Ferrari motor) at Road America a few times over the years. What an interesting car, amazing to look at.

Thanks for the compliment. The "Cobrari" is a fun car that really makes people scratch their heads! Last year I put on a Tec coil pack ignition (distributorless) which made about 40 more horsepower, this winter we are playing with EFI. As cool as it is to look at, it is much more fun to have it at 7900 rpm in 3rd gear - ever hear a V-12 Ferrari with open pipes under your ear? Next time you see it, find me and we'll go for a ride.
That is, of course, if the fact that there are many incorrect parts on it doesn't offend you!Not only do I not know what year the horn button is, I'll be dammed if I remember where I got it ~! I'll second that comment. I had a nice email exchange with Colin. He sounds like a good guy. Even though I am a Chevy and Buick guy, I'd love to see that GT500 in person. If I could only come up with a reason to go to WI...

More reason than free beer? Well, I do have the "Noah's Ark" Judge collection, 1 white/red 70 RAIII 4 speed convert, 3x nat'l GTOAA Gold champ, 1 white/red 70 RAIII 4 spd HT twin; 1 black/black 70 RAIII 4spd w/ a/c, pw, ps and 22 other options convert, 1 black/black 70 RAIV 4 spd HT twin, some funny colored Mopars, a couple of original Shelby Cobras, another 70 Chevelle SS (396/350 4 speed) (for sale soon!),a bunch of funny 'furrin cars, a Paxton S/C 66 GT-350, and some other goofy stuff. We usually have a shop party at some point in the summer and get the city to shut down my street, usually leading to a burn-out (cars, not people) contest by the end of the night [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/
![]() Thanks for the positive feedback, good to know that imperfect or not people still appreciate great cars. Regards, Colin Oh yeah, and since I have known Charley for a while, I really like this thing: |
