If you can find a Sun tune up chart it lists the coil number.

Joe, They list #293 on the Sun Chart. 1969 got #298 coils, but I have seen unmolested cars with 293's. This is just one of many things that can't be explained. Sam

Never seen a 424 coil. Saw 298's and a lot of common 293's. Learn something new everyday. Sam

Lots more good info fellas, but one question still remains. If the only difference in a cowl induction car and a non cowl car is the bracket why is the coil number different? If this was the only issue shouldn't they all have either 270 coils or 298 coils with a different mounting bracket?

I've never seen a 424 coil either
I wouldn't take what was on a Sun tune-up Chart as Gospel. I've actually seen that Chart & I thought it was a typo. Someone out there should have a Delco catalouge out there right. Time to step up to the plate!
