Lance Hill raced that car and I believe he went on racing Pro Stock into the '70s. Belmont and Gorries seemed to know what a drag strip was. During one of the early '70s CanAm weenends at Mosport, a UOP Shadow made its home at Nurse Chev-Olds in Whitby. Most dealers around here had no interest what so ever. A friend couldn't dig up any GM sponsors and ended up racing a Dodge.

![]() Wow.That shot of Lance's car brings back a lot of memorys.I hung around with Rick Eaton of Golden Mile Chev and he was a close friend of Lances.Rick had similar Camaro that they ran in Super Stock.Back then high stall converters were not fully developed,so get the cars off the line they would do a spin wheel start. With the line loc on and sticky Atlas Buecrons on the front the car would sit with the rear tires spinning at say 5000.When the lights finally came down all they did was let go of the line loc button and stab it.It sure was hard on the starting line considering a lot of tracks didn't have cement.I ended up buying a hugger orange COPO Camaro that originaly came from Golden Mile.My first car was a 1969 Camaro 350-300 4 speed from Belmont that was a demo owned by Dave Mackay.Great times. |
