This topic was discused on a Mustang site several days ago. I think most people are overall happy with the Pertronix but there is enough of them conking out that most of even the die hard Pertronix people say to make sure your carry a spare set of points/screwdriver and feeler gauges in your trunk.

I have used petronix in over a dozen cars and had no problemn. As was stated before get the second version that installs under the rotor (Ring and pick up) and make sure you have a full 12 volts to the positive side of the coil. My understanding is that the earlier version would cut ot and not the second.

![]() pertronix 1 , http://www.pertronix.com/ignition/ignitor/index.htm Ok so which style is the good one??????????. The number 2 sounds interesting with the dwell adjusting, but it may be to much garbage in a small package, meaning cheap parts????. They have a pretty good name going, Guys, what has the factory said about the dead units???. Bud. |

Has anyone used the Lectric Limited electronic ignition? It only has one wire coming from dist. like original. I've also heard one of the Pertronix units requires you turn key on for a few seconds before cranking. LL unit is higher priced.

Yep, the one in your link (Ignitor II) is the one we had so many problems with. I love this line: "Senses engine startup and increases dwell time providing more energy for starting sparks." Sure it does! The first one of the "new" units we had, I tried it in my LS-6 Chevelle, and we couldn't get it to fire! Eventually it got to where it would start occasionally, but it ran like crap. Then, the one in dad's Yenko Camaro burnt up (old style), we replaced it with a new style, and the same thing happened. Called Pertronix, got a hold of some "old" style units, swapped them out, and problems solved. As a matter of fact, the tech guy at Pertronix said they had had a LOT of complaints with the "new" style.
Here is the one you want: Original Ignitor |

COPO69, I saw that one awhile back on a site where some guy is restoring his car, but had no info about how it worked, he shure was proud of it he had three photos of it, I think he said he shiped it to some guy that did it and it cost him 150.00 for the conversion. But I recall only one wire comeing from the unit.

I've used the original Ignitor on several cars and had no problems. I have one sitting in the box in case I decide not to use the TI setup.

I think you are talking about 'Ignition Man'. He's out west, CA? Knows his ignition stuff, but got kicked off the camaros.net board. Maybe HI Jeff knows his real name.
Other thing to note is points work great. And they run forever. I was always planning to modify, but too many issues with the Pertonix. MacNeish is running points in his 68 race Z and it's more than competitive. Now if you're running endurance stuff, then you need something better (too high of rpms too long). Just like when people want to put in an BeCool radiator for better performance, what problem are you trying to solve?
