Default template for 69 Camaro rear 1/4 panel grill holes?

Hi,
I'm a new guy. This isn't exactly a supercar since it only has a 350, but hopefully someone can help. My wife has a 69 Camaro convert that had NOS rear quarters hung on it about 15 years ago. But they don't have the holes to mount the grills on the louvers. I would like to put the grills back on to spruce it up a bit. Does anyone have a template or measurements for drilling the holes? Thanks

You can buy an old junk set and drill holes where the studs are originally located. This is the only template I have found. Good luck..

Hey Joel. Welcome, and congrats on your recent "Super Chevy Appearance"! Buy the grills and line up one of the grills and mark where one of the holes will be. Take the grill and push it through a piece of cardboard to make a template, line up the one hole on the car, and your good to go,.... start drilling!

Most of the aftermarket Camaro suppliers offer the template kit for about $20.00. It resembles a blueprint and aligns off the body lines on the quarter. I've used them and they lined up the trim nicely. I would cut away some of the excess paper to accurately place the template. Also, lay the trim piece over the template to make sure the posts line up with the drill points on the template before you drill. My Gm ones didn't align perfectly so I marked the slight adjustment before I centerpunched for the drill holes.

I had one replaced quarter, so I used the other side to make a template, and then put it inside out for the side I needed to drill. I was very, very careful, but after I marked the holes, I stuck the louvers over the marks. They were a little off. I adjusted until I like it, and drilled pilot holes. I was still a little off? I finally got it right, but what a PITA. I vote for the idea of using an old set of louvers as a template. The louvers fit a little bit into the indentations on the quarter. With the old louvers as a guide, you can get it exactly right.

MOMMAS OLD LIPSTICK WORKS GOOD ON THE END OF THE STUDS TOO!!! (most of the time it takes 2 people) but the eyeball on the car is usually the best bet! .......hold up the part..... have someone hold it (where you want it...walk around looking at diff. angles!!! {SOME RESEARCH REQUIRED})touch the part to the car!!!.........mark it,punch, start drilling! ODDS ARE IT WILL BE JUST RIGHT

Joel,
Do yourself a favor and buy the template kit. About 10 years ago I had factory GM quarters put on a 69 that I have. I broke the studs off the old gills, set them in place, and used them to drill the holes. Well they looked like they lined up. I ended up drilling another set of holes. Ouch! Thanks for the replys everyone. Ok, confession time - I already made a cardboard template and drilled holes in the wrong spot on one side. Without another car right there to look at, the cardboard seemed to be in the perfect spot between the indentations. But when I tried to fit the grill on, it seems it is supposed to overlap into the louvers. Oops. So I need to buy that template so that I don't have more than one set of holes to fix. Looks like I'll have to round up a Camaro parts catalog somewhere.
Thanks Pete. I'm getting alot of mileage out of that picture in Super Chevy!

BTW, this site has the coolest smilies!
