Default Re: 1966 Chevelle Malibu SS 396 375 L78

Mystery Chevelle is an interesting name. Do you know reason the car was given this name? There was a lot of mystery to the early BB. The 1963 427 Mystery Motor was used for a short time in 63, then in 65 NASCAR allowed the Chevy guys to run 427 cu in to compete with 426 Hemi and 427 Ford and just by "coincidence" the 1965 396 425hp engine had enough meat on it to bore to 427. Then in 66 Corvette had 427 450hp for a short time until it was changed to 427 425hp with no change to engine. Also in 66 was the Chevelle 396 375hp engine that was almost exactly like the 1965 Corvette 396 425hp.
