Yes,they were hot melted into the top ofthe case.Also on the Orignal boxes too.You should see it if it is there.It will be on the upper left of the battery, and look like this. P 7 T which is 1969-July-Anderson Plant.Also look on the bottom right of the box,for a ink stamp code.
I have an R59,R79,R89W NOS delco Batteries still in the original boxes.They have date codes similar to the example shown.
