I have had a lot of luck going back to new with my last 2 '69's at AAA, who have access to the same DMV records. The trick is getting the AAA clerks to provide you the info they have right in front of them. They need a reason to provide it to you, but that can be pretty much anything. You have to be a AAA member to even get to talk to them, but once you have a transaction going on the car, the rest falls in place.
