Default Re: 69 L78 Nova Fan

Mr70,

Well, I guess it was late. I just looked up the number Martin listed "It's 3947824EV" in the prevoius note, in the parts number history DB. When I looked at the 1970 Assembly manual. I saw the two other numbers I mentioned. I should have quoted them. They are 3939001 and 3947128. If I would have looked closer I would have seen the 6060 was listed above the blade.

Thanks,
Greg

Default Re: 69 L78 Nova Fan

There are two part numbers for the L-78 fan listed in the 1969 AIM. The first fan, part number 3947128 (later superceded by part number 6270076) was a four blade unit having an 18" diameter and did not utilize a fan clutch. The second fan, 3939001, (part number also superceded and became 3990936) is listed as a five blade unit with an 18" diameter and again, did not use a fan clutch. I don't have the AIM handy, but if someone would check, I believe that the revision on the sheet shows approximately April, 1969. Remember that the revision date listed in the AIM was when the document was updated (not when the actual change was made), but the actual production line change would most likely have been close to this date.

Regards,

Stan Falenski

Default Early L78 Nova fan

Hi I am working on my 69 Nova l78 that was built October 1968. From my research I see that it takes the 4 blade fan (which I now have) part# 3947128. I thought I needed the one inch spacer but now that I'm assembling everything the fan is so close to the radiator the one inch spacer will not work. Can anybody tell me if there was supposed to be a spacer with the 4 blade fan. Thanks

Post 69 L78 Nova...

Contrary to all the repro catalogs and other mis-information; the L78 and L34 came with a staggered 5 blade fan...there was never a spacer. I understand the references to AIM info...but, I have never seen or heard of a factory 4 blade on any big block car. happy to be shown different..
