Hawaiian....I think the law was just for cars in the Continental U.S. I have also seen 69 Camaro's on Maui with Factory Heater Deletes.

I got this from Rich Fields @ CRG when I asked the question.

The heater delete option was not allowed under US law as of
1 Jan 1968 because a new Federal law took effect on that
date (see below) mandating a front window defroster (and
thus the heater was required). The heater delete is listed
in the 1968 assembly manual, and might theoretically have
been briefly available at model introduction in September
1967 through the end of the calendar year; however we have
never seen a documented 1968 Camaro with a heater delete,
and Chevrolet production records show none as being sold.
Heater delete plates continued to be made for
over-the-counter sale after 1967, and can and were applied
to 1968-69 Camaros as an after-factory modification.
However, after 1967, heater delete plates were only used by
the factory on export vehicles or vehicles assembled
overseas, such as the Yutivo Phillipine Camaros.

For reference, see:

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/...s/safstan2.htm

Standard No. 103 -- Windshield Defrosting and Defogging
Systems -- Passenger Cars, Multipurpose Passenger Vehicles,
Trucks, and Buses (Effective 1-1-68)

This standard specifies requirements for windshield
defrosting and defogging systems.

Best wishes,

So I take it that Canadian built cars stated to be shipped for Canadia could be heater delete and those shipped to the states all had heaters.

What dealer was the March featured car shipped to?

I know of 2 68 camaro parts cars out here with heater deletes. I will take pictures before I take them off if I'm able to buy them. I also looked at a 69 Convert. a while back with heater delete. I am also parting out a 1970 Boss 302 right now that is a heater delete car. They were definetly available in Hawaii.

That's really neat. I'd really like to see a '69 sticker with the heater delete option. If you get a copy could you send me a copy? Thanks I installed heater delete on my car and even though it isn't original it really looks neat.

Where were these cars were built? Perhaps they could be some of the Phillipine built cars.

Still have yet to check on the 69 SS that i know has a Heater delete plate but I did run across a pic of a Red 69 Crossramed RS/Z28 that on its display board states "Dealer Options" Heater Delete knowing whos car this is and no doubt a Very respected member of the Camaro community I would lay odds he has it on paper someplace? Or is Dealer option different than Factory options. I would think that a dealer could not remove a heater also in fear of the new law. Guess a better way to put it when do Dealer Options no longer count as such. If a dealer removes the heater and installs block off plates a year after the car is sold is it still a Dealer option, or must it be done prior to it leaving the dealers lot when new

when I went to california I checked original parts group for the heater delete kit for my 69 chevelle and it was discontinued. although it was listed for a 66-67 all I need is the firewall pieces. there was some comments of the quality but my car is just a clean driver. i don't know of any one else.
