The NC-8 chambered exhaust was not discontinued. I have seen it on late 1969 Chevelle build sheets. It was discontinued as the standard exhaust system for the L78 but was still available as optional equipment "where system is permissible". I believe this was also true for L78 and Z/28 Camaros.
Is there any real evidence of a 69 Heater delete car in Hawaii? |

I had this discussion with Jim Mattison at the Camaro Nats a few years ago. If memory serves me correct, he said that in 1969, all cars had heaters, because of a federeal mandate for defrosters. In addition, I believe he said that this was for cars sold in the continental US.

The motor vehicle safety standards that governed this went into effect in 1968, but I think you might be on to something with respect to the "continental U.S." criteria. It appears from these standards, that either the car has to have a defroster/defogger OR for vehicles outside the continental U.S, they may have one in lieu of meeting the standards. If anyone is interested, I can post the actual government standards for defrosters/defoggers (my paraphrasing may not be entirely accurate). Let me ask this then... Was C48 a valid option for Camaros in 1969 (and 1968 for that matter)? Or, was there an export option (or overseas option if you will) that deleted the heater? Joe,
Yes, I've seen several chambered exhaust Chevelles built late in 1969 as well... Paperwork to back it up too. What about Camaros though? My understanding was that it was removed as an option during the first half of the 1969 calendar year. Is this information incorrect? Again, I'll defer to you guys for the right answers. ![]() Regards, Stan |

No doubt about actual heater delete cars in Hawaii. I have seen a lot of them. I looked at a 69 Convertible about 6 months ago with one. I have also seen quite a few Novas with them. Yes, I will let you guys know if I part any cars out with one. They are fairly common here.

My copy of this is not good, but it appears to say "6-13-69... RPO Cancelled"

Come on guys. There are quite a few heater delete cars around. That doesn't mean they were born that way. Some people just like the concept, and, it keeps the heater core from leaking onto your new carpeting. Same for chambered exhaust. Some guys just think it's neat. Not everybody restores these things for judging. If Reggie had it restored, he did it so he could drive it a litte.
