The cars were basiclly SS cars with Malibu trim level. The Yenko 9737 package should have included the 15X7 rally wheels , but in his case it was not. It has SS 14X7 wheels with a Y center cap according to the original owner. This is the first time I have seen this. Mistakes do happen. SS wheels would be the standard on a COPO car with rallyes being an option. COPO Chevelles did not receive dogdish hubcaps and XT's like the Camaros. Joe C can shed more light on the Chevelles than I can. Perhaps the original WTGT's an rallys were stolen while at Yenko? This was not uncommon...BKH

So, SS wheels were standard on the 9562 COPO, unless the 9737 was ordered also, which replaced the SS wheels w/rallys...right? So, I am assuming his car is the "typical" Yenko Chevelle and came with 9737 also? Is the owner on the net by any chance? Sounds like we have some SERIOUS brain picking we need to do on him!

I will honestly say that I was having a hard imagining(sp?) the SS wheels on a Yenko Chevelle (I guess I am used to seeing them all wearing rallys), but I really like the look...not sure if I like it becuase it's something different, or if I actually like the SS wheels on it better.

The COPO Chevelle is a little confusing because there are actually 10 different 9562 COPO numbers listed with different ECL codes. By comparison, the COPO Camaros only have two 9561 ECL codes. From what I can tell though, the COPO and Yenko Chevelles came down the line as an SS L78 car with the SS hood. On front they used the SS grill and short eyebrows, SS front signal lights, and SS side lights. On the rear quarter there is no "Malibu" emblem and on back they used the SS black paint and trim between the tail lights. No Malibu trim on the outside except the grill bowtie. The problem arose with the SS emblems. The SS Chevelle emblems on the grill, rear panel, door panels and dash read "SS 396" so they could not have been used with a 427 engine. The COPO paper work exchanged the front SS 396 emblem for a bowtie on the grill and deleted the SS 396 fender and rear panel emblems. Inside the COPO order swapped in the Malibu door panels and dash trim instead of the SS 396 trim. COPO Chevelles have been found using 1 of 3 different steering wheel emblems. The SS, the bowtie, and the Malibu. The most common wheels were the 14x7 SS wheel with the SS emblem. I know of one that came new with dog dish caps and of course the double COPO 9737 cars had 15x7 Rallys. Supposedly there is one documented COPO Chevelle that came through with the Malibu long front eyebrows and lower body trim but I have not seen it. This BY Yenko Chevelle from Douglas may have been a COPO Chevelle that Douglas put Yenko stripes on. A look at the build sheet will tell. As everyone knows, anything could have happened as far as factory mistakes, exchanges, or parts swapping by the dealer. Anyone know if this BY Yenko Chevelle is on the Yenko vin list? Still a great car weather it is a Yenko Chevelle or a Douglas built Yenko Chevelle.

Good point about the ECL codes. As I was working on the site lately, I was looking at the Chevelle info, and it quickly got involved. Good question about it being on the list: Brian...did you get a chance to snag the VIN# & check? Did you get a good look at the paper work? Sorry for all the questions, but those A-bodies are what I love!

Our car came with the SS wheels and it was a COPO 9566AA car. BA being the automatic version. It had the full Malibu black vinyl interior and the blue bow tie on the steering wheel. The outside had all the SS black paint treatment and the extra cost D96 stripe. The only out side emblems was the Chevelle by Chevrolet on the header and the trunk lid. All the information on COPO, non-Yenko, cars that I have seen used this 9566AA code. More knowledgeable dealers better understood the ordering procedures and the various combinations that were available.

I took pictures of the Yenko window sticker, front and back. It has the hand typed Yenko sticker with a Yenko stock#. I will get the pictures developed today. I will be in total shock if this a Douglas sticker car. I doubt that those cars had a Yenko window sticker and stock number. It had POP as well. I will talk to the owner soon...BKH

An NICB search could also confirm the car was originally shipped to Yenko Chevrolet.

If you talk to the owner, ask if he has his build sheet/broadcast sheet. GM typed the original dealer's name on the bottom of it/them.

I added one of your Chevell-A-Bration recruits to the list last week (Jeff), but I got to thinking this morning...what's the word on the 2 Yenko Chevelles that were in Tenn. also? Were they local cars, or...? Any chance in getting them to make the trip to Collinsville?
