emblem placement on the 70 novas?
did some of the early cars have
them placed above like some of
the early camaros?it seems anything
is possible ,just as the placement of
stripes probably varied from car to car!

Other than the dressed up Gobi car, all '70 Yenko Novas had the YENKO crest emblems placed below the NOVA emblem on the front fenders.

The rear decklid 'NOVA by Chevrolet' emblem was removed, and the YENKO crest emblem put in it's place. There were some cars that had their emblems removed, (stolen), while on dealer's lots. One original owner insisted that Yenko put on some new ones. Another original owner didn't know it was supposed to have emblems since the holes on the decklid were covered by that dealer's own sticker; 'WALLACE CHEV'.

Marlin, Help, I don't know much about the '70 Novas. I always thought cars came with LT-1's (factory installed) and you say they were ordered as L65's. Were the cars just standard Novas with stripe packages or was the engine different? Thanks

Marlin, Two points, First: Is Wallace Chevrolet still in buisness? The store is/was only about 20 miles from my home. It is/was in Linden, New Jersey. If I can gather any info for you let me know. I will ask around at the track and see if any of the racers know any of the techs who worked there. Sometimes life is so ironic, I bought a suit last week from a gentleman who was the sales manager in charge of high performance cars at Briggs Chevrolet in South Amboy, New Jersey. He shared some interesting history with me. I thought that it was very cool because he told me that many previous stories that I was told (at the track) were embelished folk lore. People love to add on their own ideas and theories and then pass them along as the "honest to God truth". Point 2: If I may I would like to "throw in" this bid of first hand info. I am restoring a '65 Chevelle Malibu (non SS) and I just had a argument over my grill with my "expert" Chevelle buddy. The car has a black trim on the grill which is part of the "SS" package. The "expert" told me that "the grill had to have been installed by someone later because it was a "SS" only part. My parents bought the car new in '65 and the car is ALL original, never been hit,never been repaired, never been anything. He said that this was not possible but my parents have pictures of the car new and it is real. I share this to add to the argument that Chevrolet did not always follow the same procedures.

Andrew: To my knowledge Wallace Chev. is no longer in business. The first owner of this eg. car is none other than BodyCraft F/SA '68 Camaro, 327/275hp racecar owner. You will probably know him without me posting his name.

COPO69: You are correct, the LT1 came factory installed in the '70 Yenko Novas. However, when Don was ordering them, he spec'd out the L65 with an M20, and then in the special instructions section of the order form wrote in COPO 9010. This COPO superceded the L65/M20 with the LT1 and an M21. This is how Don got the LT1 into a non-SS body, he originally spec'd a non-SS V8 engine. Quite ingenious!!

The other goodies came along with the 9737 COPO, but without a build order for '70 we cannot tell exactly what it contained.

That is so cool! I see the "Body Craft" Camaro at least once a month. I hope that you will be able to attend our "Muscle Car Show and Go" next season. I would love to see any member of the club there. Andrew

Marlin, Have any original underhood pics of a Duece been found? Did the cars have decals on the air filter lid? I'm wondering what HP rating was used since the 70 Camaro LT1 used 360HP and the 70 LT1 Corvette used 370HP. Or was there no HP decal? Also did the Deuce use a special code 4:10 rear?
