Gotta be damned exciting, getting into a virgin at your age... 'ya know, the engine, that is...
The 2 pics that I can see cam lobes aren't very encouraging or is it just the pics ? The one in the cylinder pic appears to have the lifter running on just the outside edges.

I think it's just the pics Mitch. As we know, it's a 90k engine that has sat a few times. I'm sure the dry start(s) did not help things. Howard's has an 097 grind along with their cam saver lifters that should fill the bill perfectly

Ya, I figured with the high mileage, it would get a new/upgraded cam and lifters.
What a surprise to find it had been on fire and find all that chemical hidden from view. It definitely found it's way to the right person to get it all repaired, cleaned and dialed in correctly.

Now in hindsight, I wonder if it was the dry chemical that plugged the vacuum line from the air meter to the enrichment diaphragm?????

Seems a likely culprit doesn't it ? I was wondering how a vacuum line would get plugged with crud One end of the rubber hose burned and either the rubber melted and ran down or the chemical got sprayed in the line ?

It was my intention to pull the passenger side head, just in order to document the authenticity of the engine stamp. Seeing as CCAS does not affirm C1's, it's an extra step I'll go through to address any objections come the day I decide to move the car on. So that affords me the opportunity to inspect the head gasket, deck, and cylinder head as well. All looks good

The engine stamp and deck look beautiful IMO. I used a combination of hand cleaner, carb cleaner, and navel jelly to clean this as it appears.

Great looking car, makes me sad I sold a 61 (listed on here under sold cars) that looked underneath similar to yours. Can't keep them all.

Cant remember where you are in Wisconsin, but I can vouge for a great engine shop around Milwaukee.

Sorry for the delayed response Bob. I am in Boulder Junction (10 min north of Minocqua). I still use my same engine builder in West Allis AMS Racing Engines. I have been using Steve for over 20 years now. Excellent quality, great power, fair charges, and good turnaround times. He is slowing down and semi retired. I'm glad to still be on the list of people he will do work for.

I was down there today dropping the 283 off. He told me he'll get to tearing it down next week.
