That shifter is factory and the documentation supports it (both the AIM and this car's shipper).
RPO M11, one-year only. Only with big block and auto. You don't see that shifter very often. Only 82 made. There was another one, turquoise, also with a WS. Guy changed out the bench and the shifter and painted it red - said it was weird. Yup, now you are like everyone else. 124378L334856

Back in the 70's as a teen I'd have probably done the same thing, not knowing the desire for rare optioned old cars today... I hope the original seat and shifter stayed with the car or was saved, but probably not.
