Making fun of auto parts store clerks is "easy picking" and I've experienced similar conversations. With that said, I'm working on preserving a 1946 Indian Chief motorcycle, all original bike. I researched the type of modern spark plug needed to replace the ones that were in it and found I needed a Champion J6 plug. I went to the local auto parts store and gave them the plug number - "don't have any of those". "What kind of car do you have?" My response, oh, this one won't be in your system". His response, "try me". So I gave it to him and sure enough, it was in their system and they had another plug number that I had found on the net - success!

![]() There are some good counter people at local stores. As long as they can look it up in the "system", some people are still very good. I have been getting common parts and accessory type parts from my local O'Rielly more the past year instead of just going to amazon. I do the same as you and look up what I am after myself first and many times just have the order brought into the store online. Their prices are just as good and I can usually have parts that they don't stock in 2 days. Any critical parts come from NAPA and only the best quality. They carry some "inexpensive" lines of parts that are priced to compete with the low grade, low priced parts out there, but I keep my vehicles long term and don't care to keep buying the same cheap part repeatedly.
