In the 1970's General Motors was trying to get the freight cost down on Vegas to keep them a budget friendly car.At the time,a new Vega had a price tag around $2,000.Engineers from GM and Southern Pacific Railroad came up with the Vert-A-Pac.This allowed 30 cars to be shipped per boxcar instead of 18. Lowering freight costs by up to 40%.GM engineers also designed specific oil baffles to keep oil from spilling along with specially designed carburetors, batteries and added plastic spacers between the powertrain and the chassis to prevent damage.

I read that it was also to cut down on vandalism and parts theft while the cars were sitting in the rail yard.

Cooks Motor Sales,Chrysler-Plymouth, Chicopee, MA.
This picture would have been in the spring of 1969 as there are two A12 Roadrunners sitting in front of the showroom. The blue Cuda is probably a 440 M-Code car which was also a "limited edition" release in the spring of 69 along with the A12 Roadrunners and Superbees. This dealer must have sold a lot of Hi-performance mopars, because most Plymouth dealers only got one A12 Roadrunner.
