My first and only Pontiac was IDENTICAL to this 1978 Trans Am with the Hurst Hatches. A blistering 188hp was barely enough to light the tires, but it seemed cool at the time. I passed up a 1977 Black and Gold Special Edition Trans Am 4 speed when the guy was a jerk to me. That was a mistake financially, but in reality, it probably saved my life as this was fast enough to get me into trouble.

This one should have been my first Pontiac.
It had a 428 TriPower (hence the 6 pack to go) and a 4-speed.
I could've bought it for $1500 back in HS days. I wish I had.
But I was a Chevy guy exclusively back then- and built the 69 Z28 instead.
I steered my best buddy in HS to the Firebird- and he bought it instead.
We used to have contests who could leave the longest burnout stripes.
Ahhh, to be 17 again...

20 years later, I met a guy who had just started working with me- who was a car guy- and mentioned he had a '67 Firebird that he had recently restored.
He showed me the pictures- which included the pic of when he originally bought it. I was shocked to see that it was my HS buddy's car!

My first Pontiac didn't come until a few years later-
when my dad & I put together a real nice 428 that I dropped in a dark blue 74 4-speed Formula Firebird. That car unfortunately didn't last too long.
My "buddy" fished the keys out of my pocket after I had passed out from drinking too much tequila and partying hard with some hot blonde twins- and proceeded to drive us home.
He shook me awake broadside across the Mass Pike- after spinning it down the guard rails on both sides of the road. With headlights coming right at us, we jumped out and managed to get it pushed over to the side without getting killed. Ruined that nice car. Destroyed every panel.
I still miss it 40 years later.
I guess I made it out alive though, so there's that...
