The new flange style starter is for a Manual Transmission.

I know for a fact that the bolt to the block style starters were used when a Turboglide was installed, as far back as 1957.

If you want the starter to be more correct looking, originals had a pin going through the fork that was held in by a snap ring, not a bolt and nut affair.
