He terrorized the streets in that car for awhile with the factory hi-horse 348 3x2 and T-10 4-speed. Then it got a little upgrade in the fall of 63 with a near new 63 409/425 2x4, the new-for-1963 Muncie trans, and a 63 4.56 posi pumpkin. One of his friends had bought a new 63 SS with that drivetrain, but he quickly got tired of having to adjust the valves, and his wife couldn't stand to drive it since it "ran too rough". So he told Dad he could have the whole drivetrain if he would do a complete swap with the drivetrain from the 60. Sweet deal! When going to the drag strip or to a pre-arranged street battle, the 4.56 pumpkin would be swapped out for another pumpkin that had 5-something aftermarket gears, and of course bye-bye to the skirts, and swap to another set of rear tires. There is an 8-mm film of the car at the drag strip with several people sitting on the tailfins on each side at the tree to help get more traction. Upon launch they all just slide right off the back and land on their feet and walk away! Now those were the days!
