As an aside here is the Manual for the 1907 White.

Instructive is the particular caution for the precise adjustment of "Gasoline" in 1907.

So after filtering the "gasoline" through a "chamois skin" as required the operator had to read the specific Baume scale and make a determination as to the grade of the fuel present, for certain grades valve moderation was required to control the burner flame size.

Through the specific adjustments called out in the manual, Gasoline during this early period was very likely much closer to a modern refined kerosene grade in formulation terms than anything like a modern gasoline.
