I just bought some things on the Gov. Surplus site. Some of the schools or municipalities have a surcharge built in; some don't. This one did, but I adjusted my bid accordingly and still won. It is only a factor if you don't read the fine print.

Your wallet may not be affected but your garage will be because usually the car won't be in it.

I try to do the same thing you do. I base my bid on the value of the car minus transportation, 7% sale tax and buyer fees. That leaves me 20% +/- below market value on my bid.

In my experience, the final buyers pay market price plus fees.

I'd much rather buy straight from a real owner (not shady dealers, scammer or flippers).
