Don't really think so? Combination of weight and 455 torque might have been to much. But I have never seen a .7 increase in gear make up almost 1/2 second? Especially on a "slick-tire" car. Mid .60's maybe, but could actually HURT ET in this case or also really through off the consistency where ya he picks up some on 1 run, and the next 6 are all over the place.

The Penningtons have been pretty tough in the FAST class and even the Pure Stock racing class many years ago. They used to run L78 camaros in the Pure Stock class and his wife I believe still runs an L88 Corvette in the class.
His dad runs an L88 in the FAST class and may still currently hold the record. He and Dave Dudek have been going back and forth with the record for years. Lane Carey I don't think has been a player for quite a few years now. I believe it's still an L88 vette that holds the record in the pure stock class too. That goes back and forth too. Tony Bischoff is their engine program. My Dad runs one of Tony's engines in his own car. I have my Firebird setup to run in the pure stock class. I've been playing with that stuff since the 80's. I've always enjoyed watching the FAST class but honestly it's just too much money to be competitive there so never built a car for it. |
