I swear some tower clamps are made from tin foil!

When needed, I buy repros from Long Island Corvette Supply. They will date code on request. Apply a bit of sealer on the connection, which I've always done anyway, and they usually tighten down without twisting. A spot of lube on the screw helps too. I've never had a leak or failure, even on cars that get driven.
Agree that originals are always best.
