It is indeed a "VIN # matching engine", in that those numbers re-stamped there on the pad do match the car's VIN. It's a slippery set of words. 'Born with' and "the car's original engine it left the factory with" are not used here for obvious reasons.
Also "The original trim tag also denotes the car to be a factory RS/Z28". I know of no method of verifying an RS-optioned Z from a trim tag. If there is, I'd really like to know it so PM me if you do.
