Great thread, lot of cool rigs!

This works for me. 2010 20' Alum-Line ordered 6" narrow and 6" lower than standard with no frills for long distance runs. Overkill construction and axles, loaded weight never exceeds 60% of ratings, including tires. I've pulled it over 90,000 miles through 42 states.

The L5P D-Max is good for 12/28 at 70 plus and pulls mountain grades with no drama.

I've looked at getting an enclosed and 6" lower would be a must for me too. I would consider specifying the roof wedge to be lower yet, also. Does it have an escape door on the left ? That seems like a necessity with it being narrow too. Great looking trailer. You must have a wash bay to keep it looking new after running thru our salt baths in the winter.

I'd like a Dura Max for pulling, but can't justify having a 2500 truck just for the occasional use it would get with a trailer. I'm watching the new Silverado series diesel. Once they have all the introduction issues worked out, I'll watch for a nice used one in a few years.

Good thread going with many cool rigs out there…

Looking at my saved photos it made me realize I have hundreds of pics with cars on trailers, but only a couple that actually include the tow vehicle as well.

Since the 70’s my tow rig has been anything that I owned and ran and had a hitch on it… but mostly El Caminos and Chevy / GMC trucks.

Worst tow rig: my ’68 L89 Camaro convertible towing my roommates ’71 429 SCJ Mustang after he blew the clutch at Fremont Raceway. I really wish I had pics of this past misadventure of towing. Used a rented clamp-on tow bar that ripped off his front rubber bumper as we made a sharp right turn to get on the freeway. Luckily the Mustang ended up buried in a drainage ditch and didn’t shoot straight across the lanes of traffic.

Best regular use tow rig: My 2001 GMC 2500HD 4X4 Crew cab. Ordered it new with the 8.1L gas engine and Allison trans. Great for pulling cars trailers or fifth wheel campers. After 20 years of use it only has 140K miles on it. It’s a solid rust free truck that has never been wrecked or had any issues (other than gulping fuel), so the wife says I can’t spend $80K just to get a new truck with Blue Tooth and a backup camera….

Best specific use tow rig: GMC hauler and Chaparral trailer. Hauled two midyear Corvette race cars easily. Only truck I have ever seen with three option stickers in the glove box. Engine lacked power but otherwise the hauler package was awesome.

Charlie, great story about the Mustang. Glad it wasn’t a real disaster.

Man I love the black Chaparral. I want one really bad for my square body dually. Have any more pics of it inside and out?

Thanks,
Bill

Here's a few basic pics of the trailer for you Bill....

If I recall, it weighed around 12K empty. Very heavy duty with great quality throughout.

I'll never own an all black truck and trailer combo again. 65' feet total length is way too much to wash!

Yes, 5' escape door, I can fully open any car door.

My truck and trailer never see winter!! Every year I cross my fingers that I can get home from MCACN without a storm, then insurance is pulled for several months.

TY! I have never weighed it empty but I would guess about 3,400. Not the lightest aluminum trailer, but I wanted structural integrity for the long haul. Alum-Line builds a lot of livestock trailers and their car trailers share that engineering.
