It doesn't make much sence unless Lake Erie didn't make grade 8, which also doesn't make much sence, or maybe it was a price difference. What was the company that made the bolts with the C?

Your right could have been cost, availability and it makes sense to not be restricted to one supplier.
I'm still trying to identify the company that used a C as a manufacturing trade mark.
