My vintage Hurst conversion doesn't have the same stick. Could it have been a later issue, or changed along the way ?

It’s a later issue. A while back I posted comparison pics of both shifters...I’ll have to dig up the post.

I went to Hurst's website and found the shifter and the stick looks like the same as mine. Couldn't find one like the pics. Closest one is a replacement for '69 shifter.
I WAS surprised to see they still sell the install kit with the mount bracket. I was of the understanding they weren't available, so the original ones sold years ago were scarce...

The early 67-68 Hurst shifter has a welded 2 piece neck and a different chrome stick

the sec design uses a stamped steel 1 piece neck and a 4106 chrome stick with large Hurst letters , then the 4106 chrome stick was changed to small Hurst letters used today

Thanks !! That is quite the different stick, alright.

It appears the '69 stick is about as close to that as I can get. I've never driven the car with the 4 speed, except to load and unload from my trailer when we moved, but it does seem to be rather tall and forward when sitting in the seat.
The vid of Grumpy shifting his '67 seems to be that stick too. I like how it pulls back further.

Now back to the subject of the original post, any progress on the subject car ?
