To clarify, all US '66 Chevelle Super Sports (138 VIN) were 396 engine.
Canadian market '66 Chevelle Malibu SS (136 VIN), like the one Charlie had, the 396 was an engine option, over and above the Malibu SS trim option. Likely more common to have a 283 or 327 engine. Nice thing about the Canadian cars, the engine/trans code was stamped on the cowl tag. Bill W
