The fan shroud should hide the mounting plate
when it's bolted up. Like Rich said that's how they were on 69-70 big blocks

Here's another view. Also while you are detailing, I have two big block top radiator hoses - that I believe are original - and notice that the hose numbers face away from the front of the engine bay. The repro hoses I see have these numbers facing forward.
