I see that - seems to be pretty common with wheels. They are actually pretty easy to ship if you cover them with cardboard and shrink wrap.

I recently purchased a pair of rare wheels (on tires) that shipped exactly how you described but I suffered needlessly for over 24 hours when they somehow got separated in Kansas during shipping and only one arrived. Thank goodness the next one arrived the following day but it sure made for a sleepless night!
