When you say you are cleaning up - are you restoring the trunk and will be doing new splatter or you just doing a deep cleaning, but preserving the orig finish etc.
IMO - if your restoring with new splatter and cleaning up the caulk lines etc, then i would remove it if your going to this extent. IF your not doing the above then definitely leave is as it is part of the original build/assembly process. There is no harm in leaving it with a restored trunk, it might look a bit odd, kinda like a factory defect in the paint, or a dent or a scratch in a restored finish..... In the end your decision for sure.....hope this gives some food for thought :-)
