Does anybody use a wheel strap system like the above thread to secure car inside their trailer BOTTOM picture shows Horizontal E-track with this new rubberized gripping strap. I'm interested to learn why you think this is unsafe or otherwise inferior I have been using Autohauler supply to purchase quality ratchets, straps, hooks etc for my trailer at lower cost than speciality racing boutique vendors.

It doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy to tow long distances with something like that. I want something that would prevent possible side to side movement. Right now I use the D rings in the floor with the straps crossed in an X. I plan on getting the basket straps that go over the tire.
I saw a picture not too long ago of an enclosed trailer that had flipped on it's side with a 69 or so Chevelle in it. The Chevelle was hanging by the strapping and I'm sure was saved from what would have been devastating damage. I could be wrong, but the kind of straps you posted don't seem like they'd hold up to something like that.

If you only haul one or two cars with the the same tire to tire width .....
If you want to install etrac specifically for those vehicles .... That would work .... Jim

Just asking/wondering how why professional auto haulers use these over the tire strapping systems and the amatuers with single car trailers dont... At any rate IF you are still reading I highly reccommend www.autohaulersupply.com for ALL your strapping hold down supplies at LOWER prices than the restoration/race car boutique web sites charge...........

New cars have nowhere to hook anything to without causing damage.
The tires are safe.

The over the tire is safe. I've seen it a million times on the road. I just don't like it. For me it's really two reasons. The first I already mentioned. I like to secure the car from being able to move side to side. Those don't actually allow it to move side to side, but they don't appear to be able to stop it by looking at them. The second and bigger reason is the attachment points. I have e-trac all over my trailer to secure things. I wouldn't trust it to hold my cars though. The extra d-rings I installed, like my factory ones, are bolted though the floor with a steel backing plate. They give me the "warm and fuzzy" when I'm trailering and I feel like I don't have to worry about anything moving.

Quite often when shipping a car of mine with a larger carrier I have had the driver tell me they don't like tire tie downs on bias ply tires because sometimes they lose air pressure and then the strap is loose.
