I got 10 mpg. I drove it to Philly once and averaged 11-12.
I had considered just putting flat top pistons in it to get it over 8:1 compression. 7.9:1 stock, I think.
It was sort of punchy off the line but I wasn't fooled into believing I could pass anyone on the highway with it. Towed ok though. I sold it when I bought an SRT/10.

----My 93 suburban is basicly the same set-up as one of these SS 1/2 tons but with a programed 4L80 trans. I yanked the boat anchor and built a 510cu. 570hp. 650lbft. pill with fast injection, GM alu. heads, etc. After some serious tuning it gets 17/18mpg on the road and can pull around 13/14 with an open loaded trailer. Of course, there are diesels out there that will do better, but I dont use it enough for that to matter as I like the thing to much! Kind of fun picking off the occasional 5.0 Muskrat,,,uh, Mustang. Oh,,,did I mention that its Barnharts old tow vehicle?.......Bill S
