This will probably drive some of the "purest" crazy -- but I have used Vega auto floor shifters and never had an issue. TAZ

I have a column shift , B&M manual reverse pattern, turbo 400 in my 67 Chevelle and run high 11's.

My favorite was the B&M chrome box with the shifter sticking out. Not 100% what the name of it was, but it just looked cool. I ran the Star Shifter because the car I built to race was a 307 Powerglide that was a trade-in at the dealership. I always liked the idea of the reverse pattern and a column shift auto. I weighed the pros and cons, and to make the Powerglide detent work and have a NHRA accepted Reverse lock-out, the B&M just made sense.
