What was Yenko's fix when converting 4-spd car to auto as far as the tunnel goes?

Now I have a few questions.

1. on the first page, Would the Island Teal car be considered an unconverted car also, to go along with Eddie's green car and the five Corvette Bronze cars? Does anyone know or suspect if this Island Teal car was converted?

2. The 325hp ash gold car, 400 turbo, 140 speedo! Was this a 9737 car?

3. The 425hp, ash gold car, specified as Yenko, 400 turbo. Was this a prototype or experiment? Was this car considered part of the 64 cars?

4. Has anyone noticed or compared the front steering components mentioned in the first paragraph on their cars to reflect this statement. The 1-1/16 stab. bar is known, but has anyone noticed the str. knuckles or pitman arm, etc., to be different or another casting number. Has ANYONE found an 850 carb. installed?, especially a List 3418, 3886091 AN, or possibly a list 4054, 3925519 AN? This is the third Yenko ad i've seen advertising a new 68 Yenko with an 850 carb!

Thanks, Bryan my new 68 yenko came with a 850 holley,....ys 8016 ralley green, just curious what do people think the carbs were??

Pete, as I bought new, ys 8016 at Jay Kline chevrolet in early 1968, and I posted this a number of years ago, ys 8016 was the first yenko sold by kline that year. Kline had all 6 yenkos in a separate showfloor, the show floor was called sports car headquarters.anyway I got a good look at all six, the whole years supply of yenkos. Back in those days it took about a week to secure financing, and insurance.I made about 3 trips back to kline chev during that week and of course looked at my new yenko every time, along with the other 5. the six were only 2 different colors, all had the same equipment, and price on the window sticker . that price as I said before was $4400 and change.none had the sw under dash guages, or the add on tach near the steering wheel. all had the factory in dash tach. I also worked as a salesman at Jay kline chevrolet in the mid 1970s and had access to their sales records.,,,,,

8016,

It's good to hear from you. About the carbs. It is well known that the L78 (MQ) and COPO 9737 (MV) came with the 4053 DZ carb, which was designated as a 780 cfm. Yenko advertised his conversions as being supplied with an 850 cfm carb. Many of his ads state a 850 cfm carb being part of the conversion package. Some say that the 850 carb used was a L88 carb. Some say the DZ carb at 780 cfm was close enough to the 850 cfm, that the DZ was considered the carb Yenko was talking about.

Do you still have the original carb that you pulled off when you replaced it with the three barrel. If so, would you see what the numbers are on the choke horn in front.

Also, Some enthusiast are working on spreadsheets and collecting information on 68 Yenko Camaro's. Would you mind giving your trim tag information and possibly a photo of YS 8016 and the trim tag.

YS 8012, VIN 8N412417, was a Grotto Blue Yenko Demo. at Yenko in Canonsburg, PA. I believe that YS 8012 was the Grotto blue demonstrator that was for sale in Yenko ads of Dec. 15, 1968 and Dec.29, 1968.
YS 8012 is shown to exist in sYc registry!

Thanks,
Bryan

Bryan........ Sad but true when I modified the yenko motor, 8016, I sold that carb for a few $$. the car was only a few months old, but the need for more speed was strong . Put the exhaust manifolds and smog parts. distrib, camshaft, and more in the trash. there was no market then for those parts. I am living now in the Dominican Republic, carribean, I have a box of car stuff back in Minnesota. Next time home I will bring it down here. yes I have many photos of 8016 when new, not sure if they show the trim tag...but I have a whole folder of photos of the restoration that do show it. If I remember right The man that did the restoration lived in ND, name Schmidt. I also have some paper work on the car when new, I offered it to a Mike Guarise, who was the owner then, but he declined?? that is How I found my old car,It was feature car dec, 2004...on this website Amazing that 4 or 5 of those original 6 kline yenkos have been found, a few with questionable colors ,Should be home in about 2 months with all the info...........thanks ys 8016

Thanks 8016! That is great that you still have the photo's and original documents. I look forward to seeing some of these items. These such items are what we learn by, and to do the proper research on these cars is very difficult without someone like you that still has these items, and willing to share the history of these cars.

Thanks,
Bryan

Great to see you back Bob and thank you for sharing your original owner info!
Thanks too Bryan for keeping track of these 68's also you're right on w/ your comments above.
Here's a Feb/69 Kline ad below w/ two '68 Yenkos left, when exactly did you take delivery of your car Bob?

Here's more Kline Yenko ads from what looks like may be the beginning in Jun/67.
Not sure when the '68 cars landed...end of Aug '67 ad w/ 10 Yenkos in stock would be too early?
Bob's spot on w/ 6 x 68's there @ the end of '67 but looks like his car the only one sold 'till Nov?
5 x 68's @ Nov 3/68 but one gone by the 7'th, two more sold or dealer traded by Dec 23/68.
Understandable if they didn't order 69's from Yenko, anyone know if they delivered any non-Yenko '69 L72's?
Note the used '67 Yenko Mar/68 ad, last thing they probably wanted as a trade in then?
