Milli Vanilli's issue was that they never sang any of their songs to begin with: it was a not-so-photogenic studio musician who did all the vocals. Rob and Fab were picked because they looked the part. Kind of like the old Brady Bunch episode where Greg "fits the suit" so he got to be the new Johnny Bravo.
