That is very cool, tell us more about the process - and how you put almost 30k / year on that thing!

Sorry...no paperwork. At the time muscle cars were common and being a young guy, who thought of keeping any documentation. I think I paid a little over $4000 for it. Four years latter the gas crisis was going strong, I got around 10 or 11 mpg with it, there was 117,000 miles on the odometer, and nobody wanted it for a trade in. I sold it to a buddy? for $300 and he lied about the mileage and resold it for $1700. I sold it with the Corvette tripower on the engine....I've since seen just the air cleaner for the tripower selling for more than I what I got for the car. Back then cruising was the thing to do every night looking for girls or for someone who thought they had a faster car. There were a few Yenkos..Novas and Cameros...around town, Mopar Hemi's and 440's in different body styles, various Boss Mustangs and just about any other super car you could think of were an every night sight. All these years later I still miss those never to be repeated thrilling days. I've since had a couple of street rods and a string of motorcycles but NOTHING equals the excitement of that Nova.

If you are like me and save all your old receipts you may still have an old registration or insurance card from back in the day. Both will have the VIN on it. Worth a shot.

The Nova was light blue...the Z28 was Forest Green with white stripes. The Z had 3.73 gears and the low end torque of the high revving 302 didn't make for much of a street car with that gear. I remember waitng 10 months for that Z28 to be delivered after I ordered it. I kept it another 10 months before I bought the 427 Nova. That of course was a GREAT street car. I never took any pictures of the Z much to my regret but I do have many shots of the Nova. They're all old snapshots or slides. I'll try doing some digital conversions for posting. Here's a faded 45
![]() year old picture if the posting works. |

All we did back then was drive...anywhere, any time. Every night, all night it was cruise around town and anywhere else where cool cars, girls, and action (trouble) could be found. And we generally found it. By the way, I also put on 31,000 miles on my '69 Z28 in 10 months. The same explanation applies.

Damn!! Love that car, everything about it...especially the 427 above the fender marker light and the clear hood scoop!

I don't know if I have added this pic to the forum as of yet. When my Cortez Silver Yenko Deuce (customized) went to Washington State, here is the 427 that was in it. I used a Vette' 3X2 air cleaner with a plexiglass lid -- open the hood and see six stacks staring at ya' ... combo worked VERY well. My version of a 70's Muscle Car. TAZ
