Can you guys tell me about my starter. Does everything look right? Cast iron nose cone etc? I pulled it apart tonight and its missing a brush. I want to r&r it with new bushings, brushes and whatever else it might need.
If you see anything out of whack, don't be shy! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Can anyone at least confirm the nose cone is correct? Also, can you point me to a good source for all the brushes etc that I can order from?
Thanks.

I've seen the question of how many bolt holes the 69 big block starter should have posted many times. I've yet to see a definitive answer spelled out with a yes or no / 2 or 3. I'm not saying it's not out there, but I wasn't able to find it. Dan did say the cap is good. He restores them, so I believe him when he says it's good, but there is a note in the AIM that answers the question without a doubt. I didn't see it before. "Rear Inboard Hole Not Used." So the answer to the Nose Cone Question for anyone that comes across this thread with the question is:
The nose cone should have three holes for a 69 big block. UPC L35 Sheet A10

HBC seems to think they're worth $600, but I think we all know better. $200-$300 seems to be a realistic #.

May help.
Factory one. All I have of starter- heat shield. Slotted tube nut holding heat shield to solenoid bolt is not back on in pics. It appears to be phosphate like wiring clips on bell and solenoid. Old thread but answer is for Chuck. Last edited by daveg; Yesterday at 07:25 PM. Reason: cleanup |
