Yes, Brass Hat cars were for GM management. The cars were ordered by the GM employee to their specs. Then, it was to be driven by that exec. or another in that Zone or Sales Region. At the end of usage, usually 3-6 months and 3,000-6,000 miles it was shipped to whatever dealer had been chosen to do the delivery paperwork. There was a very significant price reduction and if memory serves me well, each employee was eligible to purchase two cars a year through this program/perk. When I was a kid selling new cars, I handled several deliveries. I think the dealer was paid a few hundred dollars for processing the paperwork and the salesman may have been paid $25.00. I met a lot of neat people doing it and I was the only "car guy" on the sales floor (the others sold cars as a means to an end). I would eagerly do as many as I could. The other salespeople finally figured out why I had more referrals and more people coming in and specifically asking for me.......it paid off, and I did get to meet a lot of neat people. I'm pretty sure GM limited the dealerships to only deliver the brand for which they had the franchise.
