I am in the process of doing a hash and thrash on an old 84’ GMC pickup -- It is now ready for the paint. In the past I used nothing but DuPont products and have shot everything from lacquer to IMRON. A number of vehicles, I used Centari with gloss improver/hardener with excellent results.
I went to my local DuPont dealer and was told Centari is no longer available – Axalta is the name of the game since DuPont has gotten out of the paint business. I then asked for an equivalent Axalta product and was told there wasn’t a direct cross such as Centari. I was told the closest acrylic enamel available was a Nason product. So I did a web search and the Nason paint doesn’t appear to be even close to the old Centari as there is no gloss improver, etc. additives available. That paint just appears to be implement/equipment paint. So I ask the many refinishing experts here – what is a good, high gloss acrylic enamel paint? At this point I am not spring loaded to the DuPont position – PPG, Sherman-Williams, etc. is OK with me. Thanks in advance for any vector and assist … TAZ

I think Martin Senour's crossfire system is a pretty god bang for the buck and easy to use. I would use the base coat with clear coat because it ends up being cheaper than their single stage. I used it to paint my house doors and its held up great.

I have used the Nason Fulthane single stage with great results on my white work trucks. It seems to be comparable to the gloss of the old Centari jobs. I use Dupont basecoat/clearcoat on all of my muscle cars. What color is your truck?

The old Jimmy is white. Are you aware of a "gloss improver" or "hardner" availalbe for the Nason Fulthane --- much like the old Centari?

I don't think they offer that since Fulthane is a urethane product rather than an enamel. We spray it in a downdraft booth with forced heat for drying. The spraying ability of the painter is what really makes this paint look good. We used to use Centari back in the 80s and it was a great product.
