I have a original L-88 engine that is stamped TI0924IT. It is all original except for the head gasket as far
as I can tell. The camshaft is stamped 8911 and I believe that translates to part number 3928909. This is an aluminum 842 closed chamber head engine and I thought the cam should be the 3925535. Are these two part numbers both for the early 69-L88 engine, and are the spec's the same for both part numbers? Also the 842 cylinder heads dated 7 18 68 and 8 23-68, were painted orange matching the age of the cylinder block. My understand was only the 67 L-88 aluminum head was painted orange with the block etc. Can anyone explain this? Also is the correct head gasket GM 3887179 (reddish brown in color for this engine.? Thank you |

According to the Corvette Black Book, "T" prefix indicates engine assembled in the Tonawanda plant and suffix IT indicates 1968 "Heavy Duty-430HP" 427 of which there were 80 out the door. TAZ

![]() I was going to ask about a Vin stamping too also welcome aboard TS! Besides deck pad, have you looked the complete block over closely for other stampings also is there an extra digit in the # you posted above...the I after the first T perhaps? Great find either way but if Vinless and genuine, it's destiny must certainly be with one of the original cars? ~ Pete

Sorry the stamp is T0924IT, fat fingered error. The engine was used by Hilborn Injection as a test engine for there injection systems. It was purchased by a drag racer that knew Stuart Hilborn in 1969 and stored until I bought it earlier this year. I have restored Corvettes since 1977. The pad looks good to me and as I said I had it looked at by others perhaps more qualified and they said it was fine.
