Well, got an email back from them. It appears they "can't query multiple fields at the same time" in their "database." That's what I'd need in order to get what I'm looking for. I didn't pursue it any further as I already know how incensed I'll get about the technology side. The search goes on..... </div></div> Well, the guy who answered doesn't want to or can't do it. I know you can if you want :-) Jan </div></div> Jan? Not sure I fully comprehended that? |

I know you can if you want :-) Jan </div></div> Jan? Not sure I fully comprehended that? </div></div> The answer you got tells me that the guy who answered has a user interface that only let you enter a VIN and when you press the OK-button you get the record for that VIN. It present what it found in the database. When you setup a database you have tools that let you send queries to the database and you can set up a specific query that you will use in the user interface. So in your case you would have to use that database tool to ask the query that would present the data you want from the records, i.e. all the VIN's from dealer XX. There is no problem to get the data you want if you have that tool. So my conclusion is that the guy who gave you the answer only knows how to enter the VIN and press the OK-button or he knows how to ask the query with the tool but doesn't want to. Jan |

Aha.......that's what I meant when I said "I'd get incensed about the technology side." Having done a ton of IT consulting, I know full well it'd be simple to get that info, assuming you have direct access to the database. My "guess" is that the NCRS folks do NOT have direct access. I'd wager that they have been given an interface page allowing them to enter a VIN, and that's it. I can think of scores of valuable queries I could make into that database that would benefit the hobby immensely!
Oh well, baby steps I guess. |

If the vin is hard to read on the microfilm, I wonder if it would then be found when typed into the computer?

I'm not sure how this record is constructed but my impression from earlier posts on this registry is that they have read the microfilm and entered the data in the the computerized database. I really doubt they they go to the microfilm for each request.

That would be a lot of data to enter!

I got my shipping data report back in a little over 2 weeks.
Turns out my post car was built on 6-19-69 (same day a Kurt Burdick's post car). Original delivery dealer code was 342 in zone 3. Dealer is believed to be Harris Chevrolet - Olds, Inc. based in Hannibal, MO. Anyone have any information, dealer tag, memorabilia on this dealer?
