Default Re: Now this is how gas stations used to look...

Took another drive today and shot a couple of other old gas stations.

This was my dad's favorite gas station and regularly fueled there. It was originally Butt's Sinclair, then became Butt's BP. It was remodeled in the BP brown decor of the day. The service bays are out back, but I never saw vehicles being worked on. Behind the car trailer is a big pit that used to be full of hub caps. I remember digging in their for some Vega trim rings, and he had them! He was not a warm and fuzzy man and did not allow anyone inside. All of his merchandise was outside. For some reason, BP stopped selling fuel to him, so he stopped fuel sales and the place became Butt's Hardware. It now appears someone may be clearing it out. I'm sure there is LOTS of cool stuff inside that building! This area of Bel Air Road is pretty busy, so I had to find a safe place to shoot this.

I believe this used to be a Phillip's 66 back in the day. It still stands along Rt 40 in Havre de Grace. It's now a suspension alignment shop. I believe the statue used to be mounted on the roof.

Many old gas stations in the area are now either demolished or remodeled and no longer resemble a gas station. I'll see what I can find tomorrow on our road trip.
