I'm hoping to reveal as much of the original trunk as possible in a survivor, and even bare metal would be better than the thick chunky coat of spatter that has been sprayed over the original finish. Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks! |

There is a member here (Grady) that did it to onw od his 69 Chevelles with complete success. The results were stunning. The rattle can spatter that was put over the original was not clear coated, so he was able to remove it with a high strength over the counter cleaner. I believe it took about 8 hours, but was well worth it as the original spatter was 95% there and in great condition.

I did what you are asking about and had pretty good results. I sprayed Meguiars Quik Detailer onto the rattle can paint and let it soak in and then brushed it and then wiped up the slop with rags. It took repeated applications but I finally got most of it out and it looked pretty good when done. I must have had 8-10 hours into the project. I was afraid to use anything stronger than the detail cleaner so maybe someone knows a better product to use.

I believe the rattle can paint is water soluble, which is the reason the cleaners work to get rid of the spatter paint. The car that I did this to is now gone, so I can't share a photo. |

Thanks Rich, I could not remember the name of the cleaner.
Helmut Spray Nine did a great job. You can not tell the original trunk paint had been painted over. Grady |
