i worked at a chevy dealer in the 70's and we had a '73 vette coupe ordered and delivered in primer.

Bill, I had a friend who worked at Mills, Chev in Moline, and later, Warrens in East Moline in the late 60s early 70s. He said it wasn't uncommon to get a car in unpainted. I know him from school although he was older that me. He worked on both my 70 L78 Nova, and my deuce. I can't prove it, but 40 plus years ago, he had no reason to make it up.
And again, I won't argue with JM, but I shot Caddy firemist through my Binks 7 back in the day with no problems. I do expect the line had less flexibility in gun settings, and thinning ratios.
