I met Pete several years ago at a Supercar Showdown in Columbus. I was showing my car and he was racing at the event. We were taking our car down the track during the awards ceremony and when he saw it was a copo he came over and we talked shop. Really nice guy and I have followed his cars and stories in the magazines and other media over the years. My deepest sympathies to his family, the hobby has lost a huge asset.

I met Peter at SCR a few years ago and got to spend the dinner across from him and his family. I've read of his exploits over the years and followed his posts over the last decade. I don't think you ask for a better role model for what a car guy should be. Plus he seemed to be firing on all cylinders as a dad and husband as well. I know that having his car stolen and having to pay ransom was a huge violation and took the wind out of his sails for a while, but in hindsight its a hell of a story and will only burnish his legacy as the rest of us tell the tales of COPO PETE. I did not know the man well, but I knew enough to see a life well lived. Live Big, Live Bold, and live GENEROUSLY. Like Peter did.
RIP Mr. Simpson. Tom Breske (a fan) |

Pete, you the man!! From your pure stock knowledge to the Labatt's in Collnsville and the lamb scwewers in Joliet. We all lost a "Good Guy"! I will never forget the phone call from Pete (Canada to Iowa) asking about putting on duece stripes. Who am I? This was Copo Pete asking me for advise. The best was when I asked him 2yrs later if the gobi car had original stripes and he told me he put them on just like I told him. The guy was as real as it gets! Godspeed Pete!

I am so shocked and heartbroken to hear this tragic news. There are no words that can convey everything the members here are feeling right now and I can’t begin to imagine how Pete's family are feeling after such a shock. COPOPete was obviously a beautiful soul and was so loved by everyone that he will be missed by all. Rest in peace my friend, rest in peace.

I have had a day to digest this terrible news and have gone from shocked to deeply saddened. Mike and I met Peter at the '96 pure stock race. Every race after, he made time to come around and ask how we were doing. There was no "I" or "ME" with Peter. He was truly interested in what other people were doing and wanted the best for everyone. Through the years I met Vicky, Eric and Owen and realize that Peter was a man who was truely Blessed, just as we have all been Blessed to know him. He was a great ambassador for the hobby and will be sadly missed.
I offer my sympathies to Vicky, Eric, Owen and the rest of Peter's family. I also want to thank each and every one of you for being there to support a very good man through his all to short life. Rest in Peace, Peter Dave, Deb, and Reid Mike and Eileen |

I need to add my sincere regrets at this news to Pete's family. We never met but I've heard many things from other people about him and they were all top shelf. Many people and the hobby itself has just lost a real friend.

I am admittedly in a little disbelief. Somehow I always thought Pete would be OK and would be cheering us on at Martin and Stanton this year. My heartfelt condolences to Eric, Owen and the rest of the family. I always felt a special kinship with Pete since, as a father, I too raced with my son. He will be missed terribly by both myself and my son Cameron. I was a better person for having known Pete.
Godspeed my friend, Thomas
