I worked at Belmont Chev Olds in Toronto. My partner and I drove to Oshawa to meet the General Sales Mgr for Chevrolet and he gave us the COPO #'s to order Camaros and Chevelles. We ordered 10 Camaros and 5 Chevelles. This gold on green was an ordered car specifically for this customer. I tried to talk him out of the color combo but the customer is always right... right? Cheers, hotrodmac

Do you remember any of the Copo Chevelles from Belmont having drum brakes? I have Canadian docs showing the 9737 option on a few Canadian sold Copo Chevelles with power drum no disc listed. Perhaps for racing?

They all had disc brakes. We were told that it was a mandatory option. Dave

Do you have a copy of the Canadian doc? GM of Canada sometimes uses the wrong decyphering code book for making the docs. For example, the GM of Canada docs dated 1993 for my 455 HO Formula shows the correct explanation for K77 as &quot;Unitized Ignition&quot; option. The 2011 GM of Canada docs show K77 as &quot;90 Amp Alternator&quot;. I spoke with George Z at GM of Canada and he said that they have to use the correct year code book to end up with the correct documents. He offered to redo the 2011 version so it would be correct. Maybe that is why your docs are showing drims instead of discs? Could be a later code interpretation?

The car was sold to a gentleman by the name of DiSilva from Belmont Chev Olds performance division.It was raced and the engine was grenaded!! He replaced it with a 454 and it was a big secret as he didn't want anyone to know so he could still race in the same class. The fact that it is being sold with the original engine is a complete fraud. I've contacted Mecum about this but I really don't expect a reply. There are more bogus COPO's out there than the factory ever produced. Buyer beware </div></div>

&quot;hi i owed that car for 20 years yes wrong shifter handle that car has one of the best bodys out thier i am a painter i stripped that car of the original paint... the foors are perfect all origanal drive train when i sold the car in 1998&quot;

Hotrodmac, I would believe that the car was considered a &quot;colour trim overide&quot; on the paperwork ? ,and did he have to acknowledge in writing that there were no returns on the car once it was ordered ?

Override? What for? Olympic Gold had 3 factory recommended interior colors-Black, Parchment w/ Black, and DARK GREEN. Standard order all the way.....

Here we go again, another COPO story?

Read below (an exerpt from Yenko.net in January 2009) from a VERY reputable member who actually ran Belmonts Performance Division at Belmont Chev Olds in the 60's - 70's.

There certainly appears to be a HUGE gap in the accuracy of events in regards to the status of the engine in this COPO.

Besides running Lance Hill's Racing Engine and Lance Hill's Tech Center I also ran Belmont's Performance Division along with Dave Mackay. We ordered every performance car Belmont sold. Our initial COPO order was for 10 9561 Camaros and 5 9562 Chevelles, including a hugger orange 4-spd I used as a daily driver. These were for stock. We sold them pretty quick and ordered more, in addition to customer-ordered COPOs. One customer order we remember was gold with a green interior.
At the time Belmont was the largest volume Chevy dealer in Canada, and we also moved more COPO stuff than anybody else.
Central Chev in London, Ontario, where my buddy Wayne &quot;Hub&quot; Huber operated their performance division, also moved a good number.
I can tell you guys that none of them ever came off the truck looking nearly as pretty as the restos.

That Gold w/ Green guts car would probably be the car sold new to Willard Clements and recently advertised for sale http://staging.motorbase.com/auction...id/1571601122/

Being involved w/ Belmont and Central through these years, can you tell us anything about factory built '68-70 L78 Novas being delivered w/ L89 Aluminum Heads?.
Not dealer mods but installed on the cars...same as Camaros or not?.

This car has not [/b]had its original motor since a few months after delivery. Willard had it towed in to Belmont on a chain with lettering still on the windows from flogging it at Cayuga Dragway. There were windows in the block too, from rods coming through. We said no way for warranty Willard. So he ordered up a replacement. The car was used hard for as long as Willard had it. Another thing, if it went 11s at Indy, it must have been dropped from an airplane. Where do the claimed numbers on these cars come from???
