Why the El C bumper? Is that a weight savings? Was this an L78 campaigned as an LS6? Cool car to be sure! Impressive ETs in stock class! What year was that Super Chevy magazine article.
Thanks!

Thanks! </div></div> Dave bought it in December of 1978 from Ray Batterson of White House,Ohio. The car was a drag car with only 5,000 miles,it toured Indiana,Ohio, and Michigan Drag Strips in the mid 1970's. It was campaigned as an LS-6 back then. That Elco bumper was put on for weight savings. That Chevy Bible is dated 1976-77 on it's cover. It sold new from Carl Schmidt Chevrolet on 350 Louisiana St.in Perrysburg OH. Assembled with an L-78/375Hp engine originally, with TH400 trans,(1 of a hand full of'70 L-78 Cnvts.w/TH400 I know of to date),& a 3:55 posi. It had it's original 375HP engine pulled later on,(believed to have been blown up),& a 454 LS-6 was soon installed along with 4:56 gears. It then ran in the low 11's. Very heavily loaded with alot options, according to the build sheet. Many years later it was painted Astro Blue and shown at many SChevy events. Daves' cnvt.and my coupe were literally built within minutes,if not seconds of eachother as mine was 18 units ahead of his on the same assembly line that day. In 1979,Dave bought a newer 1971 LS6 short block with all new parts & installed it then. Today Dave says he's not quite done & has a few details to tend to,like installing a roll cage similar to what it was raced with. |
