Not sure on the width, but there is typically enough room between the mounts - and they generally fit.

The angled ear on the spring plates is the originally installed version, the straight eared version is the replacement. I'm not sure when the design changed, both will work though. Just remember that they are RH & LH specific. When you see a car with a flat spot on the bar from rubbing the diff cover, you'll know they had the plates on the wrong sides!
